benefits are available

Expediting: Collecting accessioned samples from each station and delivering to the technical
benches.
o Walking and pushing a cart is required for the entirety of this task. Our techs do not pick
up from Accessioning and will rely on our Expediters to deliver frequently. This task
requires a sense of urgency and understanding of the impacts to the technical areas and
meeting our daily metrics if there are delays. Breaks are scheduled every 2 hours, so our
Processors that are assigned to expedite for their shift, should expect to be on their feet
walking and delivering samples for 2-hour periods at a time.
TOUCH: Sorting and receiving pre-accessioned samples from our PSC sites into bins to be
delivered to technical benches.
o Standing is required for most of this tasks duration. The Touch bench is a standing-only
bench. Samples received as “TOUCH” are scanned and unpacked by a Touch Receiver
and then handed off to the Touch Sorter to sort individual samples into designated bins.
Breaks are scheduled every 2 hours, so our Processors that are assigned to sort or
receive Touch for their shift should expect to be standing for 2-hour periods at a time.
Shipment Receiving: Sorting and receiving pre-accessioned samples from our Branch sites and
delivering them to technical benches most urgently upon shipment arrival.
o There are multiple shipments and shuttles from our Sister Labs and branches that are
processed at their sites and packed for shipment to our main lab here in Seattle. Upon
arrival, a Supervisor or lead will unpack and sort out the shipment so the samples can be
pushed out to the technical benches as soon as they arrive. They may need assistance
and pull any Processor or contingent worker to assist with unpacking, sorting and
delivering samples. Shipments are unpacked as soon as they arrive and can take up to
30-45minutes.
SRS-ing: Scanning samples into barcoded trays for storage so that techs and other departments
can locate the original tubes if they need to repeat testing.
o This function can be performed sitting or standing, but there are thousands of specimen
tubes to scan. We have 72-hole racks that can store 72 individual blood specimen or
urine tubes. The expected productivity for scanning in samples to a 72-hole rack is
between 20-25 racks an hour. Breaks are scheduled every 2 hours, so our Processors
that are assigned to SRS/Scan samples into our storage racks should be prepared to scan
an average of 40-50 racks in 2-hour time blocks at a time.
Cleaning: clearing and putting away samples, trays and carts at the close of the previous day and
disinfecting counters. The are various cleaning tasks throughout each shift, but any Processor
can and should expect to be placed on cleaning duties if necessary.
Accessioning: We do not anticipate that we will be training any contingent workers on
Accessioning or Data Entry as this is usually a 90-day training schedule which could exceed the
3-month contract, but unless absolutely necessary to do so and if time and training allows, we
would normally train to accession COVID samples or IFOBTs (mailer kits that are received
through USPS).

Summary: The main function of a specimen processor is to perform specimen accessioning, sample sorting and data entry in a fast-paced, high-throughput environment according to established standard operation procedures.
