Corporate Controls Engineering Manager

Location: Dallas, TX headquarters (with alternate location possibility in Arizona or Ohio).

50% travel required.  

Salary $160-190k (possibly more) plus bonus


The Corporate Controls Engineering Manager will be the leader of the company Corporate Controls Engineering Department. He/She will be responsible for Vision and Architecture of the Controls and Automation Systems and Processes. He/She will work on controls and automation projects to install new manufacturing systems and upgrade existing manufacturing systems in all manufacturing facilities. The primary software applications used for controls and automation are Rockwell Automation and Wonderware (Aveva) Archestra System Platform & MES.


A successful candidate will have a passion for documenting projects, organizing and communicating expectations, and a keen sense for prioritizing risk vs. reward as it relates to hardware and software solutions.


The Corporate Controls Engineering Manager will be based out of the Dallas, TX Corporate Office with possible alternate locations at our plants in Arizona or Ohio. He/she will report directly to the Corporate Engineering Manager. He/she will be the direct supervisor of Controls Engineers located in Dallas, TX, Garland, TX, Casa Grande, AZ, and Wooster, OH. He/she will support projects at all of our Manufacturing Facilities.


The Responsibilities of the Corporate Controls Engineering Manager include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Overall Vision & Leadership of Plant Controls & Automation 
  • Lead System Architect of Controls & Automation Systems 
  • Supervision & Mentorship of a Department of 4-8 Controls Engineers
  • Partnership & Direction of 3rd Party Controls Engineering partners
  • Organization & Administration of Controls Engineering “Help Desk” system & Project Workload
  • Design & Specification of Plant Control System Architecture, including Control Panels, Hardware, and Communication Protocols
  • Develop/Enforce Process Controls Standards
  • Develop/Enforce Controls & Automation Documentation Practices and Protocols
  • Ownership of the Learning & Development of Controls Engineers
  • Develop/Install/Commission Plant Controls & Automation Systems, including PLC Programming, HMI Development, & MES Data Collection

Skills and Experience Requirements

The Skills and Experience of the Corporate Controls Engineering Manager should include most of the following:

  • Minimum of 15 years working within a Controls & Automation Engineering role in the Food & Beverage, Consumer Goods, Medical, or similar Industry
  • Dairy experience would be preferred or similar industry with high sanitary standard utilizing CIP cleaning and sterilization.
  • Minimum of 3 years in a Management or Leadership role of a Controls & Automation Engineering team
  • Advanced Ladder Logic Programming within Allen Bradley PLCs (ControlLogix)
  • Advanced HMI Development is required, preferably within Wonderware (Aveva) Archestra System Platform
  • Experience with .NET programming environment
  • Understanding of Object-Oriented Programming Principles
  • Experience developing detailed process descriptions suitable for providing programmers with all needed information required for developing code suitable for using contract programmers not familiar with the
  • Design/Specification of Process Control Panels
  • Experience with Wonderware (Aveva) MES, or a similar MES platform, is preferred
  • Experience with SQL Databases is preferred
  • Experience with Ethernet/IP Communication within a Plant Control System is preferred
  • Excellent Formal and Informal Communication Skills, Professional Attitude, and Professional
  • Strong Computer Skills (MS Office)
