GENERAL SUMMARY
The basic duties of the Mechanic is to install, troubleshoot, clean, inspect, and maintain mechanical equipment throughout the facility in a safe and productive manner.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The job duties listed below are typical examples of the work performed by the Power Plant Maintenance Mechanic. Not all duties assigned to this position are included. Power Plant Maintenance Mechanics may be asked to perform other duties and requirements may vary.
• Possesses the knowledge and experience to maintain, troubleshoot and complete repairs to facility equipment and machinery including various conveyors, compressors, gear reducers, fans, valves, pumps, steam turbines, soot blowers, tanks, vessels, and other equipment, to ensure safe and efficient plant operations.
• Perform preventive and repair type maintenance work on plant equipment with minimal supervision in compliance with established company environmental and safety policies.
• Initiates and completes work-orders as directed.
• Able to anticipate potential and recurring problems and find permanent solutions to prevent re-occurrence.
• Possesses strong proficiency in Stick, MIG, and/or TIG welding.
• Ability to proficiently operate a cutting torch, power tools, pneumatic tools and manual hand tools.
• Knowledge of heavy equipment including loaders, backhoes, cranes, forklifts and water trucks
• Operate other equipment including, but not limited to, industrial forklifts, manlifts, skid steer type loaders, and other mobile equipment.
• Knowledge in rigging and hoisting of complex loads for use in positioning, moving, disassembling or assembling plant equipment.
• Must be able to read and understand prints, drawings and technical manuals.
• Respond and report to work during off hours when emergency repairs are required.
• Takes proactive steps to identify discrepancies with plant equipment and initiate improvements.
• Attends safety meetings and participates in plant safety programs, such as lockout/tagout, hot work, confined space entry, job hazard analyses, and pre-job safety briefings.
• Performs other duties as assigned and directed by Maintenance Supervision and Plant Management
• Reads, understands, and applies company procedures and policies, operating and maintenance instructions and procedures
• Uses good written and verbal communication, including documentation of work orders, professional communication with colleagues and management, and while using a two-way radio.
• Always maintains a safe, clean and organized work area.

WORKING RELATIONSHIPS
The Power Plant Maintenance Mechanic reports to the Maintenance Manager and may also take direction from Shift Supervisors, Senior Shift Supervisors and other members of the Plant Management team.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS
- High School diploma or General Education Degree (GED) or equivalent work experience
- 3-5 years’ experience; Heavy Industrial experience preferred.
- Power Plant experience preferred.
- Experience with welding and fabrication preferred.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS
- Maintenance Mechanics must be able to work in extreme temperatures and will be exposed to heat, cold, wind, rain, dust, confined spaces, elevated areas, dirt, ash particles and fuel particles
- Must be able to lift a minimum of 35 lbs. and up to 100 lbs. occasionally
- Must be able to sit for extended periods
- Must be able to work on feet for extended periods
- Requires the ability to climb stairs and ladders in order to work on the boiler and other plant structures. Must be able to work from heights.
- Maintenance Mechanics will be exposed to vibration, moving mechanical parts and loud noises.
- Must be capable of using protective equipment such as hard hats, safety glasses/goggles, safety shoes, hearing protection, air masks, respirators, etc. in the performance of job duties
- Must be able to interface effectively with plant mechanical and control systems.
- Must be able to work in confined spaces.
- Working with hazardous materials may be required.
- All employees are required to comply with the Substance Abuse policy, which includes but is not limited to a post-offer drug screen and physical examination
