Director, Strategic Sourcing

The Director of Strategic Sourcing will be responsible for the thought leadership and development of our domestic procurement function.  The successful candidate will have a proven track record of installing systems, process and structure in a decentralized procurement function.  They will provide leadership, direction, development and performance of supplier networks through effective supplier relations, communication, metric analysis, and the management and development of the Strategic Sourcing teams. Responsible for implementation, retention and development of this new organization structure to create a world class supply chain, drive material productivity, provide process structure for seamless fulfillment and enhance customer satisfaction in support of company goals and department strategies.

This position will set the example for the team on following established process standards including sourcing category management, spend analytics, market research, strategy development, e-sourcing, risk and supplier management and will proactively contribute towards the continuous improvement of established standards.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the development and execution of strategies for the full cycle of the supply chain and procurement process to ensure consistent and high-quality delivery of products.
  • Establish strong collaboration with Supplier, SIOP, Plant Management and Sales teams to ensure product availability and enhance customer satisfaction.
  • Develop and maintain on-going relationships with key suppliers and establishes effective programs and to ensure “best in class” supplier performance.
  • Provide in-depth analysis and planning to implement continuous improvement processes within the supply chain group, as well as with suppliers.
  • Manage the development, implementation, and alignment of our Global Sourcing strategies and spend categories to achieve broad business objective.
  • Analyze and understand total cost of ownership structures for area(s) of responsibility to develop better and/or innovative pricing models (e.g. performance- or indices-based pricing).
  • Negotiate vendor relationships, supplier relationships and implement best practices in procurement and vendor management to support organizational operational objectives.  Monitor category trends and overall spend.
  • Direct the development and negotiation of complex agreements with suppliers.
  • Responsible for setting goals and objectives for the responsible spend category ensuring the company objectives are met.
  • Ability to analyze market trends (cost drivers, plastics, steel and corrugated) to identify financial and supply risks and opportunities
  • Complete understanding of purchase optimization by leveraging spend and pricing methodologies utilized in plastics, steel and corrugated
  • Demonstrated command of complex sourcing, negotiating, and commodity strategies in the areas including hedging, GPO, consortia, and derivatives
  • Responsible for delivering the planned performance and continually improving the strategies for all categories; leads strategic thinking to develop longer-range category strategies and plans that drive significant value while meeting the business requirements
  • Delivers annual goals by leading cross-functional teams using spend data analytics, market research, benchmarks, and cost modeling to identify and leverage high value opportunities that deliver innovative and sustainable value, operational efficiencies and risk mitigation to the business

Skills and Abilities

  • Proven track record in developing and implementing sourcing strategies (suppliers, processes) that meet business objectives.
  • Comfort with ambiguity and creating something new, something that does not currently exist.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence and build consensus among members of the organization.
  • Experience producing reports on performance and provide comprehensive management information and in-depth analysis when requested including spend analysis, savings secured and potential savings for forecast and budgets.
  • Demonstrated project management skills. Ability to lead multiple small, medium and large projects simultaneously through all phases of the project lifecycle, including detailed project schedules, tasks lists and status change reporting.
  • Demonstrated experience with Microsoft Office Programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, etc.). Intermediate skills required in Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to tailor messages to the given audience and influence outcomes. Can present information in a clear and concise manner
  • Ability to prioritize, organize and multitask in a flexible, fast-paced, and challenging environment
  • Travel expectations: 25%+
  • Experience building a new set of capabilities within an organization, passionate about contributing to best-in-class strategic sourcing organization
  • Develop and manage efforts in sourcing and procurement implementations to include supplier identification, supply chain mapping, contract/pricing negotiations and vendor relations
  • Deep understanding of the end-to-end procurement process; 10+ years of strategic sourcing experience leveraging data to create leading category strategies that generated significant value

Education/Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Supply Management, Engineering or Finance Business REQUIRED; MBA preferred
  • Minimum 10+ years progressively responsible experience in operations and/or professional sourcing and supply chain experience
  • Membership in ISM (NAPM, with professional certification as a CPM, preferred)
  • Ability to build plastics/resins cost models for new and existing materials and components and compare to prices for similar materials and compounds in client’s production (consistent conversion costs, raw material costs, etc.)
  • Develop and manage efforts in sourcing and procurement implementations to include supplier identification, supply chain mapping, contract/pricing negotiations and vendor relations
  • Strong quantitative and analytical skills with understanding of key component breakdown and cost drivers
