Estimator - North of Boston
Our clients primary objective is to deliver exceptional service to our clients' specific goals. Our project teams deliver top quality work through a collaborative process while keeping our client's best interest as the focus at all times. The Estimator is responsible for evaluating bid specifications and drawings, ensuring that we know everything required to successfully bid and win the project. Estimators must aggressively follow-up with subcontractors to ensure that bids are received. Estimators also work with the Project Management teams to follow-up on bids and budgets to finalize the proposal.
Responsibilities: Including, but not limited to:
Prepares subcontractor bid packages and solicits and maintains communication with subcontractors and vendors.
Transmits addenda and other bid information to subcontractors. Ensures proper coverage from subcontractors.
Submits 100% of bids and budgets by the bid deadline. Enters all relevant information into estimating software.
Review bid requirements thoroughly and ask follow-up questions to ensure a thorough understanding of the scope for specific trades assigned.
Develops RFI's and clarifications and ensures adequate subcontractor coverage. Performs a comprehensive analysis and scoping of specific assigned trades.
Creates bid lists that fit scope of job, ensuring that we have the right subs for the project. Include value-engineering ideas on proposal.
Thoroughly checks requirements to ensure proper scope. Helps ensure that subcontractors are aware of (and commit to) the project schedule and communicate and document any long lead items.
Perform in house takeoff's where required to qualify existing bids and/or generate in house budgets.
Coordinate and attend site walk through's.
Visit project site, father details and compile data to estimate all costs according to specifications.
Develop accurate conceptual cost models, understand construction methods, productivity, equipment, systems and materials.
Work closely with business development during estimating process.
Follow-up & Closing
Consistently follows-up on submitted bids and budgets with Project Team to help close business. Attends project hand off and close out meetings.
Project Turnover & Buy Out
Properly turns over bid documents and sub buyout information to Project Management in a timely manner. Review drawings with Project Management team and Director of Estimating and highlight areas of concern.
Coordinate all project close out meetings with field team, project management team, and estimating.
Subcontractor & Vendor Management & Relationships
Helps build existing and new subcontractor relationships that will expand the our clients vendor network across all trades. Maintain and supplement a geographic data base of all subcontractors and material vendors and assist in matching the right vendor to the right project.
Initiate project turnover meetings between the estimating and project management teams prior to project start. Provide all bid documentation to the project management team. Collaborate and assist with project buyout and negotiations with subcontractors.
Keep track of current material and labor pricing, including escalation and update internal database.
Manage, train, and mentor team members.
