Our client is a global manufacturer serving a huge range of markets -  pharmaceutical/health and beauty, food & beverage, paints, solvents, oils and lubricants.  Our client supplies both boutique manufacturers and the world’s top brands with Drum Closures, Food & Beverage Caps, Dispensing, and Custom Packaging Solutions.  Our client's business is very strong, and our client will be adding new plants in New Albany, OH and Mexico, and in the future in California.

As Advanced/Sr, Manufacturing Engineer you will be responsible for process design and development concurrent to new product development working within our global new product launch teams. Additionally this position will support and lead manufacturing start-up operations that  include: plant build-out, process development and optimization of flow, machinery & equipment acquisition, manufacturing layout, continuous improvement and other duties associated with engineering support of production to ensure that our client attains the best in class manufacturing operations.
You may reside in either the Auburn, IN area or the New Albany/Columbus, OH area.

As Advanced Manufacturing Engineer, reporting to the Director of Operations-North America, your responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting/leading new plant start-ups collaborating with internal engineering teams and various vendors.
  • Being part of the new product introduction group and being involved in the early stages of product development through manufacturing and delivery to influence the design to reduce manufacturing costs, optimize speed of production and eliminate defects while insuring customer satisfaction especially in the areas of form, fit, and function.  Special attention is necessary with sealing and product-to-product compatibility.
  • Using scientific and practical tools to prevent defects prior to final product design and before equipment is built is required.
  • Working closely with design in developing design for manufacture and assembly optimized concepts and specification requirements to best utilize equipment and manufacturing techniques to achieve low cost designs that meet customer goals.
  • Participating in cross functional product development teams
  • Providing process design and development and fabrication of new equipment, work instruction generation and validation.
  • Supporting design development efforts to ensure an effective transition to production.
  • Supporting manufacturing operations in the areas of process development, tool design, machine programming, machinery & equipment acquisition, manufacturing layout, and continuous improvement.
  • Providing direction and technical support in identifying continuous improvements to manufacturing operations and implementing new technologies including development of processes, researching current and emerging technologies and evaluating process quality, cost, capacity and capability alternatives.
  • Being responsible for all aspects of development, documentation, and support of the manufacturing process from conceptualization through production sustaining activities.
Your background should include:
  • Bachelor of Science in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Industrial Engineering
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in advanced manufacturing process design and development
  • New plant start-up experience a plus
  • Lean or Six Sigma experience a plus
  • Thorough understanding of the injection molding process or other plastic molding process and MUST have  experience with high speed multiple component assembly automation and robotics
  • GMP experience
  • Experience with developing and implementing successful solutions for complex manufacturing processes
  • Willingness to travel 40%.  Initial travel will initially be less if you live in the New Albany/Columbus area.
  • Experience in an ISO 9001 environment
  • Project and process management experience
  • Process design and development experience
  • Poke-Yoke mistake proof experience a plus
  • Creative and innovative spirit
  • Excellent English verbal and written communication skills
Client is seeking local/commutable candidates who live either in the Auburn, IN area or in the New Albany/Columbus, OH area.  There is no relocation assistance offered.
