R&D Staff Scientist - Electrical Systems

 
We are looking for a R&D Staff Scientist who will work with other R&D and engineering resources on advanced development projects. The Staff Scientist will conduct research and development of advanced technologies targeting new and emerging sensors in conjunction with Engineers and Algorithm scientists. This position is a combination of physics and engineering. It requires hands on work and often involves other disciplines, including, but not limited to, physics, signal processing, high power RF and microwave systems, electronics, electro-optics, and data analysis.
 
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Conduct research and development of major importance on sensors including but not limited to EO/IR and multi-spectral sensors, radio frequency sensors and microwave technologies for handheld, vehicle and UAV applications
  • Develop models for Sensors utilizing modeling software
  • Work from first principles
  • Capable of both theoretical work based on academic research as well as hands on experimental work
  • Participate in patent writing and contribute to the company’s technology portfolio
  • Assist in the writing of proposals and white papers on both new and existing technologies
  • Engage with multiple government agencies, industry and academia

EDUCATION
  • MS (PhD preferred)in Physics or PhD in Electrical Engineering
 
EXPERIENCE
  • Minimum of one year of experience (Physics PhD) or three years with Masters or PhD Electrical Engineering
  • Previous experience in an R&D environment
 
SKILLS and QUALIFICATIONS
  • Must have ability to obtain and/or maintain a DoD Secret level clearance
  • Must be well rounded in physics and capable of engaging with staff and partners (universities typically) on research topics in physics
  • Capable of leading technical discussion at a level suitable to the audience
  • Experience using laboratory instrumentation, test equipment, and techniques for use thereof
  • Balance of theoretical and practical – must be comfortable with research papers while simultaneously rolling up his/her sleeves and reducing theory to practice
  • Experience with building experimental apparatus from raw materials
  • Experience working with the DoD preferred
  • Position requires 15% travel
